Britannia Boatbuilders
Grades K-5, $8 per student, minimum fee applies
90 minutes, year round, 9:30-11:00am and 12:30-2:00pm

Discover Britannia’s fishing and boat building community by exploring the Shipyard and a Japanese boat builder’s family home. Students experience the making of small wooden boats in the Murakami Boatworks building.

Working on the Waterfront
Grades K-3, $5 per student, minimum fee applies

90 minutes, Sep-Jun 9:30-11:00am and 12:30-2:00pm

Experience Britannia’s diverse cultural community by exploring the Shipyard building and workers homes while engaging in stories, playing a game and making a toy to take home.

How We Lived
Grades 4-6, $5 per student, minimum fee applies

90 minutes, Sep-Jun 9:30-11:00am and 12:30-2:00pm

Investigate Britannia’s immigrant community from 1890 to 1940 through role-play as newspaper reporters. Then students research people’s lives by unpacking artefacts, creating a timeline and exploring historic buildings.

Facing Change in Richmond
Grades 6-7, $5 per student, minimum  fee applies,
90 minutes, Sep-Jun 9:30-11:00am and 12:30-2:00pm

Students can challenge their understanding of how people in Richmond’s maritime industry faced change during historical eras of progress and decline. Students will observe the landscape by map making, artefact research and primary sources to discuss past and current challenges to consider solutions.

Inside the Britannia Shipyards
Grades 8-12 $5 per student, minimum fee applies
60 minutes, year round 10:00-11:00am and 1:00-2:00pm

Tour the Shipyard and homes of a multi-ethnic workforce that lived at Britannia Shipyards from 1890 to 1940. Students discuss the living conditions and how social, cultural, economic and environmental factors determined people’s lives.
