About the Programs

The City of Richmond supports positive quality of life for all its residents and provides the annual City Grant Programs to help support the work of community service organizations in the areas outlined below. Grant program goals:

  • To improve the quality of life of Richmond residents through a wide range of beneficial community programs.
  • To assist primarily Richmond-based community groups to provide programs for residents.
  • To build community and organizational capacity to deliver programs.
  • To promote partnerships and financial cost sharing among the City, other funders and organizations.

Arts and Culture

Information Session

An information session will be held to provide information about the 2025 Grant process. All applicants are strongly encouraged to attend. This will be an opportunity to learn about any changes to this year’s Grant process or Program Guidelines and to ask questions.

Child Care

The City of Richmond annually accepts and reviews online grant applications for Child Care Capital Grants and Child Care Professional and Program Development Grants. These grants help to support:

  • facilities
  • spaces
  • programming
  • equipment and furnishings
  • professional and program development support

Getting Started

Review the Program Guidelines (links below) before beginning the application process to ensure that the goals and objectives, eligibility criteria, assessment considerations, and review process of the Grant Program being applied for are understood.

The Grant Applicant User Guide listed below provides a step-by-step guide through the City Grants Web-based System. To begin the application process, access the web-based City Grants Application System by clicking on the link below. Firefox and Google Chrome are recommended browsers.

Applicants who received a previous City Grant will need to submit a final report by opening the previous application and completing the Grant Use/Final report section. This must be submitted prior to beginning a new application. 


Information Session

An information session will be held virtually on Wed, Sept 18, 2024, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm to provide information and answer any questions about the Child Care Grant process. Parks, Recreation and Community Events

Environmental Enhancement

Richmond relies upon a healthy and diverse landscape to maintain quality of life, biological diversity and a resilient natural environment. Richmond residents play a key role in shaping the initiatives that contribute to healthy, diverse and functioning ecosystems. The City of Richmond's Environmental Enhancement Grant offers registered non-profit organizations and individuals an opportunity to organize environmental events and initiatives to enhance Richmond's natural environment.

2023 Neighbourhood Celebration Grant

The 2023 Richmond Neighbourhood Celebration Grant Program was designed to provide up to $2,000 in funding support for groups of neighbours, not-for-profit organizations, school-based groups, and local artists to create events that connect residents of diverse backgrounds and build community in Richmond.

Reporting Template for 2023 Grant Recipients

A Neighbourhood Celebration Grant Final Report is required for all grant recipients in order to be eligible for future funding opportunities through this program. Within four weeks following the completion of your event, complete the 2023 Final Report template below, save the file to your computer and then email it along with two photos from your event and two completed photo waivers (one for each photo) to RichmondHasHeart@richmond.ca.

Refund Cheque for Unused Grant Funding

If you have unused grant funding exceeding $50.00, you will need to provide a refund cheque to the City of Richmond within four weeks following the completion of your event. Mail a cheque using these details:

2024 Richmond Neighbourhood Block Party Program

Thank you for your interest in the 2024 Richmond Neighbourhood Block Party Program. This Program provides an opportunity for neighbours to apply for up to $500.00 in funding to host a block party that connects residents in their neighbourhood or strata. This year's program will:

  • foster neighbhourhood connections;
  • create a sense of community; and
  • enhance safety and awareness in neighbourhoods.

The application and the Block Party Planning Guide are now available for block parties taking place May 1 to Oct 31, 2024.

How to Apply

Applications to the 2024 Richmond Neighbourhood Block Party Program opens Apr 15, 2024. To apply for funding to host a block party, follow these steps:

  1. Complete one of the following application forms:

  2. Complete a road closure permission form (if applicable):

Housing Priorities Grant Program

Richmond City Council endorsed a one-off $10 million Housing Priorities Grant Program on November 25, 2024. The Program uses federal funding from the Housing Accelerator Fund to accelerate the development approval of more than 220 affordable rental homes in Richmond. The initiative focuses on reducing cost barriers and ensuring a greater supply of affordable housing for those in need. For details visit richmond.ca/AffordableHousing.
