Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering. The Richmond Arts Centre offers a wide range of visual arts, music, dance and digital programs for preschoolers, children, youth and adults with many of these programs requiring volunteer assistance.

Benefits to volunteering
Volunteering helps connect community and community members and provides an invaluable service. In addition, benefits to volunteering include:

  • gaining needed volunteer hours for school
  • adding volunteer experience to resumes
  • hands-on work experience in a classroom setting
  • giving back to the community
  • providing peer/mentor support

Time Commitment for Seasonal Program Volunteers

  • A minimum commitment of 8 weeks of volunteering is required
  • Arrival time is 15 minutes prior to and after class time to assist the instructor with set-up and clean-up of classroom

Arts Centre Volunteer Duties

Assisting an instructor in the visual arts, music, dance, and/or digital arts program includes, but is not limited to, helping:

  • with classroom set-up and clean-up of supplies
  • with classroom management
  • with refilling any art supplies running low on the student tables
  • students on their work if they require additional support or explanation
  • student bathroom breaks (taking student to the bathroom and waiting by the door)

Requirements and Screening Criteria

  • Minimum of 15 years old
  • Minimum commitment of 8 weeks
  • Successful completion of a Police Information Check with Richmond RCMP branch on No. 5 and Steveston Highway
  • An icanhelp account to track volunteer hours through www.icanhelp.richmond.ca 
    (see instructions below)

How to Set-Up an icanhelp Account
Icanhelp is great tool for volunteers to keep track of their weekly or Special Event hours. To sign up for an icanhelp account, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to www.icanhelp.richmond.ca and click on Sign In/Register
  2. Click on Volunteer as an individual
  3. Fill out the form
  4. Reference section
  5. Enter reference contact information (if applicable)
  6. If you do not have a reference, enter N/A and continue
