Term and Responsibilities
The primary functions of City Council are: to establish administrative policy; to adopt bylaws governing matters which are delegated to local government through the Community Charter and other Provincial statutes enacted for the protection of the public; and to levy taxes for these purposes.
City Council is also empowered to manage, acquire and dispose of City assets.
The day-to-day operation of the City is delegated by Council to the Chief Administrative Officer and City staff.
A general election for Mayor and eight Councillors for the City of Richmond was last held on Saturday, October 20, 2018. The Inaugural Council Meeting for the 2018-2022 term was November 5, 2018.
All are elected for four-year terms.
