About City Council
The primary functions of City Council are: to establish administrative policy; to adopt bylaws governing matters which are delegated to local government through the Municipal Act and other Provincial statutes enacted for the protection of the public; and to levy taxes for these purposes.
City Council is also empowered to manage, acquire and dispose of City assets.
The day-to-day operation of the City is delegated by Council to the Chief Administrative Officer and City Staff.
A general election for Mayor and eight Councillors for the City of Richmond was last held on Saturday, November 19, 2011. The terms of office for the new Council commences on December 5th, 2011.
All are elected for three-year terms.
